Product Description
INTRODUCING BATTERY-VIEWER, THE MOST ACCURATE MULTI-CHANNEL BATTERY MONITOR AVAILABLE FOR BOATS AND RVs
Scheiber's remarkable Battery Viewer leverages a unique battery monitoring technology. This is the same unit supplied by Scheiber as standard OEM equipment on Beneteau, CNB, Lagoon, Jeanneau, Monte Carlo, Prestige, and other production and custom yachts. It is now available for the aftermarket as a complete kit known as the Battery Viewer.
The Battery Viewer is a battery monitoring system designed for multiple batteries or battery banks. It is meant to be deployed as a system to monitor the batteries, and to alert and guide the user regarding relevant and critical data for managing charging. It can monitor and manage up to six (6) batteries simultaneously in real-time.
TECHNICAL CHARACTERISTICS:
- Maximum battery capacity per IBS: 249 AH (in parallel banks, 1 IBS per 249AH)
- Maximum number of IBS per display: 6
- Maximum current per IBS: +/-1500 A
- Maximum continuous current per IBS: +/-155 A (12V) +/-200 A (24V)
- Compatible Batteries: Gel, Lead Acid, (Flooded), AGM
- Display Size: (L x W x D) 150 x 95 x 65 mm (with cable connected)
THIS KIT INCLUDES:
- 1 tactile color screen Navicolor 3.5” with 5.7" flat glass touch surround
- 1 IBS sensor (Intelligent Battery System) 12V or 24V
- 1 cable for IBS sensor
- 1 cable for the connection between the sensor and the panel
- 2 battery terminal adapters
Additional IBS Sensors are available
How is the Battery Viewer different?
It is not an amp-hour counter. Amp-hour counters are simply current shunts coupled with a clock and a counter. They are basically counters which are tallying amps and hours. They are not adaptive devices, they don't model battery behavior, and they get more and more inaccurate the more you use them. Typical battery monitors have tiny screens, read out in an indecipherable code of abbreviations and symbols, and don't compensate for load balance, internal resistance or temperature. They either require manual re-set, or re-set automatically using an occasional zero-out reset routine.
The Battery Viewer uses Intelligent Battery Sensors (IBS), which are smart devices which reside on the battery terminal of each battery that is being monitored. The IBS technology is the same technology that is used in more than 20 million vehicles around the world that employ the fuel-saving and pollution-reducing Start-Stop technology The IBS itself is a sophisticated and robust device using an on-board ASIC micro-processor chip, a current-measuring shunt, a temperature sensor, and a LIN-bus network interface. The IBS resides on the battery post and continually communicates to the Battery Viewer over a small network cable via LIN-bus (an automotive network standard).
The IBS collects the data at a 1kHz sample rate, then pre-processes the data before delivering it to the Battery Viewer for higher level processing and display. Its processing and its communication with the display are state-based, meaning it will go into sleep mode when their is no energy activity, or into low-energy current comparator mode when activity is low (<150mA). In states where there is energy activity (charging or discharging), the system is in it wake mode with full CPU processing and communications.
Data collected from the IBS includes:
- Current (Amps)
- Amp-Hours
- Battery Internal Resistance
- Open Circuit Voltage
- Temperature (sampled a 1Hz)
- Engine start detection
The Battery Viewer uses a sophisticated algorithm and battery management software to monitor the ongoing battery values (voltage, current, charge balance, and temperature). These values are continuously analyzed and compared to an internal battery model. The model considers the battery’s original capacity, and then updates its model using a continuously captured history of temperature, current-flows, and voltages. The result is a very accurate display of the battery operating conditions, State of Charge (SOC) and State of Health (SOH) for each battery connected to an IBS sensor.
BATTERY VIEWER DISPLAY
The data provided by the Battery Viewer is the actual and accurate info that you need to know, displayed in living color on a 3.5” tactile LCD screen. Such as:
- State of Charge
- State of Health (% life remaining in battery)
- Remaining operating time (at present consumption)
- Voltage
- Current
- Charging or Discharging Status, and magnitude of current flow
- Battery Capacity (as entered by user)
- Capacity Available (at current State of Health)
- Battery Temperature
- Type of Battery (as entered by user)
- Low voltage alert (alarm and recovery thresholds set by user)
- Low SOC alert (alarm and recovery thresholds set by user)
- Low SOH alert (alarm and recovery thresholds set by user)
- History of alerts
- Time of Day
