This LED fixture works great for ceiling or wall mount applications in boats, RVs, and other 12VDC / 24VDC applictations. At only 6W it produces 350 lumens, rivaling incandescent fixtures with up to 40W of consumption.
The aluminum center panel provides even heat dissipation with Lexan panels on either side for protection, simple cleaning, and soft edge light dispersion. This fixture features a memory function which allows for the light to be controlled by an external switch. When using an external switch, the light will return the same setting (color / dimming) as before power was cut.
It’s a nice, simple design, and easy to mount. For my situation there were two drawbacks. First, there’s noticeable glare around the edge, so if your eyes happen to find themselves on that level, it can be uncomfortable. This can be remedied with a few layers of matte-finish tape (e.g., Scotch “Magic” acetate tape), or by sanding the edges. A bigger problem for me was that the LED emitters were uncomfortably bright, even when the fixture was at its dimmest setting. With the fixture mounted above my dinette table, If I happened to glance upward, I found myself squinting. But if you’re looking for a bright light, and your mounting location is such that glare won’t be a problem, this can be a good choice.
The lowest dimming setting is still a little to bright for above our dining table. Was hoping to achieve some mood lighting. The brightest setting is way too much for just above our salon table.
We purchased several of these as cabin lights for our 36 ft. trawler, and we are quite pleased with the appearance and brightness. The red light feature is great for the downstairs cabin helm when under way after dark, as the red light allows cabin visibility without causing loss of "night" vision. We only wish the lights had provision for dimming, as they are almost too bright if more than one is on at one time.
