Why do I want an integrated On/Off switch?

The DC/DC converters inside traditional USB chargers (even those left plugged into an AC socket) are continuously using energy, even when not charging.  The result is a parasitic power drag on your DC system, eventually draining your battery.  Up until now, we have always recommended adding USB chargers on a boat to a switched DC circuit, or adding a separate switch. This charger allows you to switch off the power to the LED, and the DC/DC converter inside, when not in use.   Compliant silicone-rubber waterproof and semi-transparent cover allows switching even when cover is in place.  This is handy for viewing battery voltage display with the cover still in place.

*What is Quick Charge 3.0 technology?  

It is a newer protocol from Qualcomm that uses an Intelligent Negotiation for Optimum Voltage (INOV) to intelligently charge your compatible device's battery - up to 4 times faster, and with up to 38% less power.  This includes phones, tablets, power packs, etc. Your device and its battery will also stay cooler during charging (due to less wasted power). Many phones, tablets and power packs built after 2016 will have internal QC3.0 compliant chips, and can take advantage of these optimum charging benefits.  Devices built prior to 2016 can also benefit, as CQ3.0 is backward compatible with older QC2.0 and CQ1.0 charging profiles.  Non-compliant phones will charge according to their standard charging profiles (ie standard charge times for your device).

How does the voltage display benefit me?

It provides information about the state of charge of the battery bank (voltage) and the condition of your charging system (alternator, etc.).  It is only displayed when the switch is ON, and can still be viewed through the semi-transparent waterproof cover. Available in Red or Blue LED readout.  If your lead-acid, Gel, or AGM battery/charging system is in good condition, the voltage should read between 13.4V and 14.4V during battery charging (alternator, shore power, solar, etc.), and above about 12.24V (open circuit voltage) when not charging. Voltages below 12.2V can indicate a state of discharge of more than 50%, which is generally not recommended for lead acid chemistries.

Will it fit my current existing cigarette lighter opening?

The outside diameter is 28.6mm (1.13") which is the worldwide standard outside diameter for OE automotive type cigarette lighter receptacle bodies. However, in some cases, boatbuilders have drilled a 1-1/8" hole *just* big enough to fit whatever opening that was required to fit their aftermarket-style cigarette lighter power ports, which may be too tight a fit for this standard sized body.  In this case a minute or two with a half-round file may be needed to open up the existing hole slightly.  In most cases, the power port should fit your existing hole without issues.

How is it wired?

Simply connect to your boat's 12VDC or 24VDC fused supply while respecting polarity (+ and - marked on spade terminals).  We always recommend an inline 5 amp fuse.
